Growing with Brave Ones (Danna's journey)

Danna Mulya (27) worked as a Marketing Manager at Brave Ones for three years since she’s a student until she graduated her master’s in Sustainable Entrepreneurship. Over three years, she’s seen the company grow from a tiny team of four to ten people, and she’s picked up a lot of lessons along the way.

Why Brave Ones?
I was an international student when I came across Brave Ones at my university's introduction market. Coming from Indonesia, I knew the struggles of adapting to a foreign country, its culture, and all the bureaucracy. Brave Ones' mission to help internationals feel at home in the Netherlands instantly resonated with me. Working with a like-minded team and creating social impact among internationals makes my work meaningful.

Growing in your role

I started as a community manager, organizing events for our international student community and managing the company's social media accounts. Within a year, our marketing team grew to three people, giving me the opportunity to focus more on strategy. Now, three years later, I'm leading our rebranding project—for me, Brave Ones provides an experience that brings endless learning opportunities.

Where your voice is heard

In the early days, our team was small—just 4 people. I was shy about speaking up, a habit ingrained in my cultural background. But at Brave Ones, I found a space where my opinions were truly valued. Karel, our founder, consistently encouraged me to share my ideas. This practice gave me the confidence not only to contribute but also to create the same supportive space for others.

Learning to prioritize

Startups overflow with possibilities, especially considering our trajectory. Working in marketing gives me freedom to generate ideas for events, campaigns, and projects—so much so that there never seems to be enough time in the day. One crucial lesson I've learned here is how to focus on what matters most. With limited resources, prioritizing becomes second nature—a skill I'll carry with me forever

Figuring it out on the way

Every day at a startup is different. You'll tackle things you've never done before, often way outside your comfort zone. One day I'm working on a summer campaign, the next I'm directing a rebranding launch video. At Brave Ones, we embrace the "figure it out" mindset. It's challenging at times, but it's fun, and you grow tremendously because of it!

Creating the culture you want

One of the best things about working in a small team is how much impact each person has on the team's vibe. Every new teammate brings their own energy, and everyone is driven by Brave Ones' mission. We celebrate achievements both big and small, foster a culture of open feedback, and have fun along the way. Our growth mindset shows in everything we do. There's space to be yourself here. Open communication and positivity are key to our team culture, where we strive to make everyone feel empowered and included.

At Brave Ones, there's space and support to grow, but we rely on each individual to take brave steps, own their journey, and make things happen. If that's what you're looking for in a workplace, you should apply to Brave Ones right away and see where the journey takes you!
