Chris' career switch: from international projects to empowering international students locally

Chris Blom (27) worked over two years as an Account Manager at Brave Ones. Also out of office, Chris has a brave hobby to guide hiking trails. Within Brave Ones, she matched many students with companies, shaped our propositions for companies and initiated and nurtured valuable partnerships.

Career switch

Coming from a global health field of expertise, managing international health empowerment projects, I felt a desire for making more local impact and discovering some new sides of myself. The dynamics of doing this for a start-up appealed to me. Karel’s (founder) enthusiasm a was contagious but most importantly, Brave One’s mission to help international students aligned with me, since I know how heartwarming it can be to be welcomed in new countries through studying and working abroad.

Growth with Brave Ones

A commercial mindset was not something I possessed naturally, but got all the means to discover my entrepreneurial side. And so I found myself cold calling, finding common grounds, asking the right questions to find and meet expectations and meet many companies. At the same time, I was recruiting students which increased my determination and enthusiasm to find suitable jobs for them.

Just go for it

‘Go for it and let’s implement those bright ideas!’ That’s the feeling I often get at Brave Ones. Your input is truly valued, and within some frames to keep focus, I experience a lot of freedom. I often joke around I feel like ‘Willem Wever’ because of all the companies I get to see from the inside.

Great propositions

What gave me confidence in my role is the fact we have built so long on our candidate pool through socials, campaigns and partnerships with universities. Therefore, I can be 100% certain that we can realize the expectations I am setting with companies for their recruitment needs.

Team culture

The young, energetic team with a get-things-done mentality has made my working days very nice. I like working in a smaller team a lot because of all the responsibilities, steep learning curve, involvement in different projects and strong bonding. The Brave Ones team culture, shaped by our many (competitive) team outings, has always been super motivating for me.
