5 easy ways to save energy cost in the Netherlands

Energy prices are currently raising, which also affects the living costs of students in the Netherlands. We have some tips for you in order for you to save some money in your household.

Heating

Probably the most obvious tip is turning your heater off as much as possible. Before switching on your heater, you can try wearing more layers or sleeping with a warmer blanket. Another option is only switching on the heater when you are home and during the coldest days.

Charging

Don’t forget to remove the chargers of your mobile devices in the socket when you are done charging. Furthermore, turn off the appliances you are not using to save battery. Also, think about putting your wireless headphones back in their case if they have one. Otherwise, they’ll get empty quick.

Cooking

Boil your water in an electric kettle instead of over the stove. You can also cook water first in the electric kettle and use the already boiling water to continue cooking on the stove. Also, don’t forget to cover your pans and pots in order to make your food cook faster.

Laundry

Whiling doing the laundry you can save a sufficient amount of energy by washing your clothes at 30-degree. Furthermore, we recommend drying your clothes on a rack instead of in the dryer.

Light

When it comes to light in your room, you should buy LED light bulbs that are energy saving. Dimming your light if possible helps as well. Of course, also only switch on the lights you really use.

Hopefully our tips will help you in keeping your energy costs low and in avoiding getting high bills. If you need further advice on how to save money, read another blog post of ours.
