Work-Smart, Study-Smart: Natalia’s Story of Success

Do you want to start working, but don’t know whether you have time? Are you afraid to take the next step? In the chaos of modern life, trying to wrangle work and studies can feel like trying to tame a wild octopus.

Natalia is a second-year student and has also gotten a job through International Student Work. We sat down with her to uncover the secrets of her success and gain insights into her journey of mastering the delicate art of multitasking.

Learning from Experience

Natalia didn’t achieve her seamless work-study balance overnight. “Getting to this point took me some time because it is hard to have a fixed working schedule while courses and lectures change every few months,” she explains. It’s a relatable struggle, one that many students face when attempting to join work commitments with the ever-changing school schedule.

“At the beginning, it was very hard to combine both working and studying, but I think it comes with time,” Natalia continues. Her experience is proof that adaptability and persistence are key to finding the balance that works for you. She is now juggling textbooks and emails like a seasoned circus performer.

The Importance of Flexibility

Having a flexible work schedule

Her job’s flexibility played a pivotal role in her journey. “Having a flexible schedule saved me and my study accomplishments many times,” Natalia affirms. The ability to tailor her work hours around her academic commitments proved to be a game-changer. Planning is essential, with being able to perfectly plan when you have school, with work, one can assure that they have enough time for their commitments. It’s a strategy that enables students to navigate the unpredictable waters of university life while staying afloat in the workforce.

Why you should manage your time

Time management is Natalia’s secret weapon. “The first, and I think the most important skill, is good time management,” she stresses. This skill has allowed her to create a structured weekly plan that accommodates assignments, study sessions, work shifts, and leisure time. It’s an essential toolkit for anyone seeking to balance multiple responsibilities without sacrificing their personal life.

How to manage your stress

Stress is an inevitable companion on this journey, but Natalia knows how to keep it in check. “Of course, I do [feel stressed],” she admits. Yet, she doesn’t let stress overshadow her progress. By recognizing her own limits and taking active steps to manage stress, she’s found a way to stay in control despite the demands.

Nurture the connections that matter

When it comes to having fun while balancing work and studies, Natalia proves that it’s more than possible. “Definitely. I have a big group of friends… We still manage to meet and have a great time,” she expressed. Her experiences highlight the importance of nurturing social connections and maintaining personal hobbies even in the midst of a busy schedule.

For those considering juggling work and studies, Natalia offers sage advice. “I would definitely suggest first looking at the schedule of your studies,” she recommends. By aligning your work hours with your class schedule, you’re setting yourself up for success from the outset. And even though the journey might seem challenging, Natalia’s story demonstrates that with time, dedication, and effective time management, you can create a harmonious blend of work, studies, and personal life. It’s a fulfilling path that not only contributes to your academic growth but also empowers you with financial independence earned through your hard work.
