Mobile apps that help students save money and live a sustainable Lifestyle

We have a list apps for those who think” a 'sustainable lifestyle is too expensive for me as a student’. These apps will often even help you in saving money and in doing something good for the environment.

Drinkstop

DrinkStop helps you finding the nearest water fountain to you. If you are ever walking around and want to refill your water bottle you can open the app and see all the fountains near you. You will probably be surprised of how many are there.

Too Good to Go

Too Good To Go is an app that fights food waste. Restaurants or supermarkets upload unsold food for a cheaper price on the app for you to pick up. You usually select the product of your choice a few hours up to one day before you pick it up. It is mostly a surprise of what exactly you get, but the seller provides a brief explanation like ”fruit and vegetable box” for example.

Vinted

On Vinted you can buy second hand clothes. The users upload their pieces for a certain price, which you can agree on or you can send another offer to them. If you realise yourself that you have to clothes you are not wearing anymore, you can upload and sell them.

Marktplaats

Marktplaats is also an app for second hand products, but not only for clothes. You can find all sorts of categories like furniture, books or instruments. After finding something you like, you can text the seller and arrange a meeting.

Ecosia

Ecosia is a CO2-negative search engine. They use the profit they get from your searches to plant trees. You can download it as an app and you change your settings on your laptop or phone. Safari has a built in option for Ecosia, for example.

We hope to provide an insight on how apps can help being more sustainable. ”Sustainability is expensive” is just a myth in our opinion as apps like the ones we mentioned actually help you save money.
