How is the student social life in the Netherlands?

The Dutch people know how to party, but sometimes it is hard to find the right parties in the Netherlands. Pablo and Mees talk about what to expect in the Dutch party scene and what culture shocks you might encounter. They also give advice on how to find the best events and enjoy the experience.

Typical clubs

In typical clubs and bars in the Netherlands you will mostly find DJs playing Dutch music and charts. They mostly attract the younger audience and are all across cities in the Netherlands. You will find parties there almost every day of the week, but it might not be according to your music taste.

How to find the right events?

If you are searching for events according to your music taste it is best to connect with like-minded people. They can give you great advice, especially if they’re already in the party scene. Otherwise, Pablo and Mees recommend to check out upcoming events on social media or follow the venues in your city. Some venues to check out in Nijmegen are Doornroosje, Merelyn and De Lindenburg, for example.

Fraternities and sororities

You probably know fraternities and sororities from American movies, but they also exist in the Netherlands. They are known for hazing during the introductory rituals, for set days during the week were you have drinks with your year club and parties or events at the weekend.

How to dress up?

It is quite common to dress up the way you feel like. You don’t necessarily have to dress up dancing as it is all about feeling comfortable instead of showing off. Enjoying the moment and having a great time is what counts the most!
